Flame Test For Silicone Purity

 

Our toys are made with 100% pure Platinum Silicone. One way to test the quality of the silicone in your toy is to take a lighter to the underside of the toy for a few seconds to see what happens to it. Obviously this test is not for the faint of heart, so we thought we would do it for you!

In fact we decided to take a small torch to one of our Spike models and see what happens. The results even surprised us. With enough heat anything will burn, but Platinum Silicone really does live up to the characteristics below. Even more interesting was the fact that we preformed this test 3 times on the same model. After wiping off the thinly damaged area with water, it was very hard to distinguish where the flame made contact. When we inspected it even closer, you could see the faintest outline where the edge of the flamed spot was, and feel a subtle textural variation. 

 

Pure Platinum Silicone will have these characteristics:

*Difficult to ignite

*Self Extinguishing

*Leaves a white ash residue

*Minimal white smoke when it burns

 

Other 'silicone' toys could burn quickly, leach toxic liquids, etc.
